The Role

The role of the Web and Publications Unit (WPU) is to maintain a high standard of committee publications and web content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, findability, and that content is tailored for online audiences. They provide super-user support to colleagues outside the team and look for new tools and methods to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the Committee Office. The WPU assists committees in promoting their work online to increase public understanding and engagement, and leads the implementation of the digital-first strategy in the Committee Office.

 

Although based in the WPU, the Social Media Assistant works directly with two committees, providing expert advice with discretion and confidence on social media and suggesting ways that committees can engage with the public and specialist groups through digital communication platforms. They prepare and implement social media strategies to support and inform committee work for a variety of subjects and across various digital platforms. Independently overseeing digital engagement campaigns and evaluating their effectiveness, they amend and improve their approach to ensure engagement.

 

Using their up to date knowledge of digital channels and trends, the Social Media Assistant identifies opportunities for engagement and shares digital campaign experiences amongst internal stakeholders. They embed best practice within committees and the WPU and produce and update guidance on the use of social media.

The Person

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills and an understanding of writing for different audiences.

 

·         Understanding of and/or fluency in use of Twitter and other social media platforms and ability to use social media creatively and effectively.

 

·         Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle difficult situations confidently, and persuasively, using tact and discretion.
